WPSL Finals
The Summer 2006 season in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) has been chock full of excitement and the coast-to-coast race for the Final Four being held in Salt Lake City, UT on July 28-29 has officially begun in earnest. It took until the final week of competition, but the seedings for the two-division East Conference playoffs have been finalized while the San Diego WFC Sealions (10-1-1 WPSL West) have secured one of the two seedings in the West Conference after their 4-2 win at San Francisco on Sunday, July 16th.
SF Nighthawks wins 2009 Silver Mug Cup
Under an ominous gray sky, the San Francisco Nighthawks of the Pacific Conference of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) won the 2009 Silver Mug Soccer Invitational Tournament, with a 5-0-1 record while capturing 49 out of a possible 60 points. The Nighthawks out-scored their opposition by a 15-2 margin, taking the final against Salt Lake City Sparta of the WPSL Big Sky Conference by a 2-0 score.
Led by 2008 All-Pacific Conference selection Kimberly Boulos (2g, 2a) and Seattle Pacific (reigning NCAA DII National champions) standout & All-West Region honoree Jocelyn Charette (7g, 2a), the Nighthawks were relentless on attack the entire tournament - who were bolstered by the addition of 2007 WPSL Final Four MVP Maria Ruiz to the squad. The tempo of the games was provided by both Boulos (playing as an attacking midfielder) and defensive center midfielder Erica Dubin (an All-West Region selection for NCAA DIII UC-Santa Cruz), who played every minute of the six matches.!
What is Honda HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) look like?
Tuesday, 29 July 2008Ever wonder how HRC looks like? I was so curious and always try to find some information about this one, and after a long search and asking the guys who involve in racing world, finally I got some breakthrough...
The picture you see here is the headquarter, yes it may look small doesn't seem very fabulous, but the tools and equipments inside is worthed millions of dollars. The building itself is located in Tokyo (Asaka Center).
HRC staffs are only around 50 people and they! work along with MSD (Motor Sport Development) which is around 70 people only. They are just small part of people from around 2000 staffs or Honda R&D. HRC and MSD is nonetheless unparalleled, with off road and track racing machines sharing space on the various shop floors, plus cyberspace time on the computer aided design screens.

HRC owns design, bench testing, development and assembly departments. It is the heart of ideas and designs of Honda, where the ideas are generated through 3D Visual system, great software is then used to produce t! he final design parameters, for all components on the machines! .
< br />In the assembly department, the machines are prepared and assembled meticulously, part by part and in the end the engine is brought to life and tested on the dyno.
Man U slip changes nothing
Manchester United's draw over the weekend doesn't change anything!
The crunch match of the season is still the clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Red Devil's 1-1 draw with Blackburn put them on 81 points - 3 ahead of the Blues with 3 games to play.
United will stay on top, even if Chelsea win, thanks to their massive goal difference. Sir Alex Ferguson's side has scored 73 goals and only let in 19 in the league this season. United's last two matches are against West Ham and Wigan, while Chelsea still have to face Newcastle and Bolton.

Olympic Headlines
The big disappointment of the day is the withdrawal of China's Liu Xiang from the 110 metres hurdles. The World and Olympic Champion slipped during a false start in the heats and never returned to the starting blocks. In the press conference afterwards, he's coach revealed that he's been suffering with an ankle injury for 6 years.
Oatar's Mohammed Issa Al-Thawadi made a false start and said after the race that a 110 meters hurdles race without Liu is a pity. It means Liu's much anticipated showdown with Cuban Dayron Robles is off. Robles bettered Liu's world record earlier this year.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt, who claimed the 100 metres gold in world record fashion, cruised through to the second round of the men's 200 metres today. ***
Yesterday 37 medals were won - the biggest day s! o far. The talk of the town has been Michael Phelps, who won a! record 8 gold medals thanks to an American Team victory in the 4 by 100 metres medley. He eclipsed Mark Spitz's 36 year record of 7 golds at one Olympics. He's 14 golds overall is also the most decorated Olympian ever. Don't forget he also set 7 world records this year and is still only 23 - so expect a lot more from the Man Machine.
***
Kenenisa Bakele set an Olympic record of 27minutes 1.17 seconds to win the ten thousand metres. The great Haile Gebrselassie finished sixth in what was surely his last Olympics.

The Williams sisters took the doubles' gold, while Elena Dementieva beat Dinara Safina in the singles final, as Russia claimed gold, silver and bronze.
Action from Paralympics
Natalie Du Toit is powering on at the Paralympics.
Du Toit broke the paralympic record in her 400m freestyle S9. She swam in a time of 4:24.75 in her heat earlier today. With this fantastic performance she is now into the final which is scheduled to take place at 14h17 today. It seems she is well on her way to winning five gold medals.
Fanie van der Merwe also got in on the medal action he picked up a gold medal in Mens 100m T37 final.
However Ernst Van Dyk didn't enjoy the same success. The veteran finished fourth in the Hand Cycling event after a mammoth effort. Even though he missed out on a medal in this race, he has another chance in the 50 km event on Sunday.

Rafa Benitez On Collision Course Over Daniel Agger
The Reds centre half has managed just 68 minutes for the reserves this season so far, as he slowly returns from a back problem, but looks set to play for his country in two games over the next four days.
Benitez though, has warned his Denmark counterpart Morten Olsen not to push the defender too hard in the games against Sweden and Hungary as he continues his rehabilitation.
"Daniel wasn't fit enough to play against Chelsea, and Denmark have ! to be careful with him. They have to be sensible and also the player knows it will be tough for him to play both games in a row," Benitez said.
"It's good for him because he needs to play, but we have to be careful and they have to be careful too."
Latvia captain Vitalijs Astafjevs will become a record breaker today - but has more important landmarks on his mind.
His country are locked in a four way battle with Greece, who the meet today, favourites Switzerland and Israel.
Astafjevs is one cap away from matching the record for a European player of 157 held by Estonia's Martin Reim, but the 38-year-old also has his focus on helping his side edge closer to a spot in next year's World Cup finals in South Africa.
Astafjevs said: "My goal is to be at the top of the list, and I hope I get there because I have no plans to retire just yet."
If he does equal Reim's record, Astafjevs still has a way to go to match the ! world top mark for number of international caps.
Th! at is cu rrently held by former Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Mohamed Al-Deayea, who has 181.
Astafjevs will be up against Giourkas Seitaridis who has been handed a surprise international recall by Greece boss Otto Rehhagel for the crucial qualifier even though he has not played a match this season.
The Swiss travel to Luxembourg as the form team despite a poor start which saw them open their campaign with a draw and a defeat, including a 2-1 loss at home to today's opponents Luxembourg.
Anfield Legend: Get Behind The Manager And The Players
Defeats against Fiorentina, Chelsea, Sunderland, and Lyon leave the club in their worst run of form for 22-years, yet Rush suggests a victory against Manchester United on Sunday could change everything.
Rush told Sky Sports News: "The time is not right now,"
"You need to get behind the manager - and the players as well. I'm sure the supporters will do on Sunday."
"It's up to the players to respond."
"The manager can only pick a team and it's up to the players to respond on the pitch against Manchester United."
"There will be a good atmosphere against Manche! ster United. Yeah, okay we lost against Lyon so maybe the atmosphere will not be quite what was expected, but we can still qualify for the second phase of the Champions League."
"We've got to get behind everyone. For me that's what makes Liverpool such a special club."
Rush suggested that players other than Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres need to stand up and be counted, and make the manager's job of selecting the team harder.
He said: "The players that come in have got to do the job, it's as simple as that,"
"They've got to make the manager's job hard to pick the next team."
"At the moment, when Torres, Gerrard and Johnson are fit they're straight in. That's because maybe the players that have come in haven't quite done the job to win games."
"It would be lovely for Liverpool to have beaten Lyon, then come the game against Manchester United, the manager could say 'What team do I pick? Everyone's playing w! ell.'"
"At the moment I think the team's picking it! self.
Liverpool Want £6million For Babel
Boss Rafa Benitez has stood by the Dutch flop, 22, and offered him a fresh chance this season.
But his patience has run out and Benitez will listen to offers.
Babel started the campaign in the first team but failed to respond to the manager's votes of confidence. The winger is worried about his World Cup place and hoped for a loan move last summer, which Benitez blocked.
He needs funds before sealing a new £90,000-a-week deal for keeper Pepe Reina.
!
Securing Reina, 27, has become a top priority amid interest from his ex-club Barcelona.
He is viewed by many as the best keeper in the world and is happy at Anfield.
Even though he's been in a dark mood at times this season during a fluctuating campaign, he's committed to Anfield.
Reina was prepared to sign a new deal last summer alongside a string of other top stars, but it was put on hold until the Merseysiders could raise more cash.

McCullough steals the show
From CMRC Racing
WALTON, ON -- With a light breeze and a perfect 27 degree temperature, the conditions and atmosphere could not have been better for the inaugural Eastern Vet Championships race held at Walton, ON this past weekend. One-hundred-and-sixty riders took part in the event.
Sturgess Suzuki's Rob Mc Cullough stole the show taking top honours in +40A, +35A and +30A competition. Mc Cullough was chased all day by Suzuki's Bill Wallin and both Coles brothers, Jeff and Brad.
Inglis Suzuki's Bill Van Vugt Sr. battled with Chris Lee to take first in +50 while Embert Berkers took third place. In the final 20-minute moto the top three stalked each other, and they were all within three bike lengths of each other right to the checkers. It was a fast pace that turned out to be one of the day's most intense battles.
Honda-mounted Tracy Rowan took the Women's +25 title, edging out KTM's Teena M! ackin.
In a prelude to Sunday's dominance, Machine Racing's Jay Burke dominated the Youth support action with cousins Andy and Marcus nailing down second and third respectively.
Sunday's race action was just as intense. The Tom Bitz prepared track remained immaculate throughout the day for the 400 rider entries.
Burke showed why he is so highy regarded as a future star as he dominated the three-moto Pro/Am feature. Mc Cullough, Marty Burr, Bill Wallin, Derek Hamm and a host of hard charging riders lined up to take a
run at the #33 Honda but to no avail this day.
The entire Burke clan had a strong showing in several classes, which made the weekend more special for them. Jay's cousin Andy raced to a fourth in 125cc Jr action and second in GP Junior. Andy's brother Marcus won the 125cc Junior class, finished third in GP Junior and earned the overall in the second annual Co-ed race with partner Jolene Van Vugt. Mark, father of Ma! rcus and Andy, uncle of Jay, took third in the very competitiv! e +40 di vision.
Other weekend notables included: Lucas Godkin, who battled B-TEC's Dustin Burr for the overall in 50cc 4-6; Marc Galeckas took top honours in 250cc Junior action; Dylan Langlois went 1-1 ahead of Connor Novak in 125cc Intermediate racing. For more results visiting www.cmrcracing.com.
Next week the Fox Fall Hi Point Series moves to RJ Motosport Park in Barrie, ON.

Empire Strikes Back
I hate the Yankees. I hate the Yankees for the same reason that everyone else hates the Yankees, they are perennial winners. They have 27 World Series championships, and the scary thing is they have more money than any other team and the resources to go out and buy another one. I have never really understood where my hatred comes from for the Bronx Bombers. I am a huge fan of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, two of my favorite players from the past. I love the city of New York, and as a history nerd you have to respect the fact that they have been able to be so good for so long. The only good thing about the Yankee's winning the title is the fact that Jerry Hairston Jr. was able to get a ring. Congrats Jerry.
NBA Mid-Summer Report: Atlantic Division
-Keefe
In the next few days I will put my gynecologist's gloves on and examine each team in the NBA, see what moves they did and didn't make. The Draft, free agency, and trades have changed the look of many of these teams like Janice Dickenson. Plus, it's been awhile since I've talked hoops on here right? I'm going by alphabetical order on this one, not how I'm predicting finishes in April of 2009, on the end of July. New acquisitions in bold and rookies in italics. (6 segments for each division)
Boston Celtics
Starters:
Rajon Rondo
Ray Allen
Paul Pierce
Kevin Garnett
Kendrick Perkins
Bench:
Eddie House
Leon Powe
Glen "Big Baby" Davis
Tony Allen
Brian Scalabrine
Gabe Pruitt
J.! R. Giddens
Bill Walker
Patrick O'Bryant
Out of town:
James Posey
P.J. Brown
Sam Cassell
The defending champions will have their entire starting 5 back for a shot at back-to-back titles, that's the good news. Check out that bench James Posey is going to be a big loss for this team; they don't win it all last year without him. I'd be surprised if Danny Ainge was done molding this team. The only off season moves they've made so far was re-signing House and T.Allen, picking up O'Bryant, and drafting Giddens, Walker, and Semih Erden. Love the starters, but concerned about the 2nd unit. Of course, everyone was worried about the bench last year too
New Jersey Nets
Starters:
Devi! n Harris
Vince Carter
Bobby Simmons
Yi ! Jianlian
Josh Boone
Bench:
Jarvis Hayes
Sean Williams
Keyon Dooling
Brook Lopez
Ryan Anderson
Chris Douglass-Roberts
Maurice Ager
Trenton Hassell
Out of town:
Richard Jefferson
Nenad Krstic
Bostjan Nachbar
Marcus Williams
The Nets are clearly waiting out LeBron James' contract. This team is going to struggle. I did like what they did with their 3 draft picks; I think all of them could play. Yi is terrible. I don't know if those 5 will start, but whatever, it's going to be no fun to watch this team Jay-Z. NJ Nets are officially 1 of his 99 problems.
New York Knicks
Starters:
Stephon Marbury
Jamal Crawford
Quentin! Richardson
Zach Randolph
Eddy Curry
Bench:
David Lee
Chris Duhon
Danilo Gallinari
Nate Robertson
Mardy Collins
Wilson Chandler
Anthony Roberson
Out of town:
Renaldo Balkman
Biggest acquisition for the Knicks is clearly Mike D'Antoni. Can he turn it around? We'll see. Not this year, not with this group. I may be one of the few out there that thinks Marbury can still play, but you just never know with him. Randolph and Curry in the up and down system? Good luck with all that
Philadelphia 76ers
Starters:
Andre Miller
Willie Green
Andre Iguodala*
Elton Brand
Samuel Dalembert
Bench:Thaddeus Young
Louis Williams*
Kareem Ru! sh
Marreese Speights
Jason Smith
Reggie Evans
Out of town:
Rodney Carney
Calvin Booth
The 6ers made a big splash with the signing of Elton Brand. Whether he stabbed the Clippers in the back or not, the big man from Duke is coming to the Eastern Conference. Iguodala is still a restricted free agent, and is a must sign for Philly is they want to be dangerous in the East. The Warriors and Clippers have spent a lot of money so I would be surprised if any team swoops in and grabs the new A.I. Should be an exciting year in the city of brotherly love.
Toronto Raptors
Starters:
Jose Calderon
Anthony Parker
Jamario Moon
Chris Bosh
Jermaine O'Neal
Bench:
Andrea Bar! gnani
Jason Kapono
Kris Humphries
Joey Graham
Hassan Adams
Out of town:
T.J. Ford
Carlos Delfino
Rasho Nesterovic
Maceo Baston
Big question here obviously is if O'Neal can stay healthy. He and Bosh could combine to be one of the best 4-5 combos in all the NBA. Calderon is an upgrade over Ford, but also losing Delfino weakens their bench severely. They will be one of the most intriguing teams in the East; don't be surprised if they add a couple more pieces to the puzzle.

Scottish Premier League Review
Celtic moved four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League after they comfortably beat St Mirren 2-0.
Meanwhile, Rangers were held to a third successive 0-0 draw by Aberdeen.
Paddy McCourt's wonderful solo goal and a late strike by Shaun Maloney gave the Hoops a routine victory at St Mirren Park to leave the hosts still without a win at home in 2009.
A dull match only came to life in the 27th minute when McCourt picked up the ball in midfield a! nd skipped past a variety of challenges before driving past Paul Gallacher.
Celtic were rarely troubled and 12 minutes from the end Maloney curled the ball past Gallacher via a deflection off Scott McDonald to seal the win.
Champions Rangers have now gone 293 minutes without a league goal heading into next weekend's Old Firm clash at Ibrox after being held by Aberdeen.
Andrew Considine could have given Mark McGhee's side their first win at Ibrox since 1991 but he somehow failed to connect with a header at the back post with Gers goalkeeper Allan McGregor caught out.
Nacho Novo hit the post late on for the home side but the Dons held on to record their fifth SPL clean sheet in succession.
Hibernian joined Rangers on 12 points as they ended Motherwell's unbeaten run with a 3-1 victory at Fir Park.
Merouane Zemmama scored on his start for the club in almost 18 months, curling home a free-kick from a difficult angle to put the game beyo! nd Jim Gannon's side 10 minutes into the second half.
D! erek Rio rdan had put Hibs back in front moments earlier after Mark Reynolds cancelled out Colin Nish's early opener.
Dundee United are up to fourth after edging a thrilling Tayside derby with St Johnstone 3-2 thanks to a dramatic late goal from substitute David Goodwillie.
The Scotland Under-21 striker, playing for the first time since being disciplined following his arrest for an alleged assault, tapped in only two minutes after his 76th-minute introduction as a late substitute.
It was the third time United, who were reduced to 10 men three minutes from time when Danny Swanson saw red for a wild lunge on Gavin Swankie, had taken the lead in a see-saw match.
Danny Cadamarteri gave the visitors the lead from the spot before Filipe Morais sent the teams in level at the break with the aid of a deflection off Darren Dods.
Andy Webster then restored United's lead shortly after the interval, only for home substitute Martin Hardie to restore parity with a! free-kick with his first touch of the ball.
Goodwillie was the match-winner, however, as he popped up to knock home after Damian Casalinuovo's effort had rebounded off the post.
Hearts captain Michael Stewart inspired the Tynecastle club to a 2-1 victory over Hamilton with a second-half penalty.
The Scotland cap broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the restart before Suso Santana added a second with an audacious back-heel two minutes later.
In a frenetic period, Hamilton winger Marco Paixao brought the Accies back into the game with a cool finish after taking advantage of Marius Zaliukas' slack defending in the 62nd minute.
In the final SPL game of the day, Falkirk had Robert Olejnik to thank as they held on for a 0-0 draw against Kilmarnock - but their search for a first domestic win of the season goes on.
An otherwise dire game at the Falkirk Stadium was lit up by two brilliant bits of goalkeeping from Olejnik, who kept out Mehdi ! Taouil's free-kick shortly before half-time and Kevin Kyle's l! ate head er.
The shot-shy Bairns forced just one save - and an easy one at that - out of Killie goalkeeper Mark Brown during the 90 minutes.
National Hockey League Review
Stanley Cup holders the Pittsburgh Penguins began the defence of their crown with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers.
Sidney Crosby and Tyler Kennedy produced two quick-fire scores in the second with the game level at 1-1 to get their side's campaign off to a winning start.
Finland hosted its first fully-fledged NHL regular season fixture as the Florida Panthers beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in a shoot-out.
More than 12,000 people turned up to watch the match in Hels! inki and fittingly, Finnish star Ville Koistinen scored the winner in the sudden-death decider.
"I didn't dream anything about this," Koistinen told MLB.com.
Meanwhile in Stockholm, Sweden, the Detroit Red Wings went down 4-3 against the St Louis Blues.
Paul Kariya scored two as the St Louis got their season off to a great star.
Goaltender Ray Emery was the Philadelphia Flyers' hero as he made 28 saves as power-play goals by Jeff Carter and Mike Richards in the second period gave them a 2-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Olympiacos 2-1 Standard Liege
Olympiacos claimed a barely-deserved Champions League win over Standard Liege thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Ieroklis Stoltidis.
Igor De Camargo, a doubt going into the game after a fractured toe, deservedly put Standard ahead after 37 minutes, but the hosts levelled two minutes before the break through Kostas Mitroglou.
Olympiacos improved after the break but it was Standard who had the better chances - until Stoltidis converted deep into stoppage time.
After 16 minutes, Dieudonne Mbokani skipped down the right wing, turned Avraam Papadopoulos in the box and shot, but the ball was blocked by Enzo Maresca.Jaouad Zairi should have done better at the other end a minute later but at least tested Standard goalkeeper Sinan Bolat.
The impressive Mbokani then muscled his way down the left and crossed, De Camargo scuffed his effort but the ball went to Wilfried Dalmat who pulled a great chance wide.
Moments later, Luciano Galletti tried his luck from 35 yards for the hosts and the ball shaved post on the way behind.
Standard got the goal they deserved after 37 minutes when Eliaquim Mangala linked up well with Milan Jovanovic, who slid in De Camargo to finish low at the near post.
After 43 minutes, Mangala was harshly adjudged to have fouled Galletti.
The Argentinian floated in the free-kick and Kostas Mitroglou nodded the ball over Bolat, who had started to come but changed his mind, and! into the net.
Mbokani started the second half much as ! he did t he first and his left-foot cross was deflected to Jovanovic, whose effort was athletically turned over by Antonis Nikopolidis.
After 55 minutes, Olof Mellberg climbed highest but headed Galletti's free-kick over.
With 20 minutes to go, Jovanovic was inches away from putting Standard ahead as his wicked dipping strike from 20 yards crashed off the bar.
Dudu had the ball in the back of the net as Olympiacos took control in the final 10 minutes when he controlled and fired home a Raul Bravo cross but he was penalised for a push.
After 87 minutes Maresca was agonisingly close when his sweet curling effort drew a fingertip save from Bolat.
Bolat saved again from Galletti in the final minute, but the sucker punch came three minutes into stoppage time.
Galletti's corner was flicked on by Bravo, Dudu made a mess of his attempt but Stoltidis was on hand to convert.
The result puts the Greek side in a strong position in second place in ! Group H, four points clear of AZ and five clear of Standard.
French Ligue 1 Saturday Review
Bordeaux moved a point clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table as they beat visitors Le Mans 3-0 at Chaban-Delmas.
Laurent Blanc's side went ahead early on through a Didier Ovono own goal before second half goals from Marouane Chamakh and David Bellion completed the victory.
Lyon were brought back down to earth in the most emphatic of fashions following their midweek Champions League win over Liverpool, with hosts Nice winning 4-1 at the Municipal du Ray to send the ! visitors down to third.
Claude Puel's side were thoroughly outplayed as they went four down before a late Ederson consolation.
By then, goals from Mamadou Bagayoko, David Hellebuyck and Loic Remy as well as an Aly Cissokho own-goal had decided the result.
Two goals in the last four minutes by Nene saw Monaco win 3-1 against a Boulogne side who played for 55 minutes with just 10 men.
Monaco went ahead 10 minutes before half-time through Chu Young Park and their task was simplified as Kevin Das Neves was sent off for Boulogne after a two-footed tackle on Alejandro Alonso.
Nene put Monaco ahead with a free-kick after 85 minutes and the same player wrapped up victory with an almost replica strike in injury time as Monaco went second.
Montpellier missed the chance to go top as Rennes recorded a convincing 3-0 win.
Sylvain Marveaux, Moussa Sow and Asamoah Gyan scored as Montpellier suffered only their second defeat of the season to! slip to fourth.
An own goal and a last-gasp penalty se! ntenced luckless Grenoble to their 10th consecutive league defeat as Nancy came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory.
Danijel Ljuboja put the home side ahead but David Jemmali put through his own net 16 minutes from time before Youssouf Hadji won it for Nancy in the 88th minute.
An early goal from Damien Perquis allowed Sochaux to move within two points of opponents Lorient in the standings.
Johan Audel and David Ducourtioux scored the goals as Valenciennes continued their fine league form with victory over St Etienne.
Ipswich Town 1 Derby County 0
The Championship game between Ipswich Town and Derby County at Portman Road on Saturday Oct 31 2009.
Shared hardship failed to goad two struggling clubs into igniting the blue touch paper at Portman Road but Ipswich eventually located the pressure release valve.
Roy Keane, their under-siege manager who had presided over 14 winless Championship fixtures, broke his duck at the 15th time of asking. The Irishman, and Ipswich followers, can finally exhale. !
Their hero was unlikely. Defender David Wright met Liam Rosenior's cross in the 66th minute and steered a header past Stephen Bywater. The stadium erupted. It was soon enveloped in relief.
Substitute Tamas Priskin should have soothed the nerves when racing away late on but was denied by Bywater. The announcement of four minutes stoppage time drew groans.
Bryan Hughes, Derby's stalwart loanee, might have brought crushing cruelty on Ipswich just as Watford's Nathan Ellington had. Twenty thousand minds must have raced back in time.
The ball dropped to Hughes inside a panicked Ipswich box but he sliced his effort over Asmir Begovic's bar. The final whistle brought the Bosnian's team unadulterated liberation.
Victories for Plymouth and Reading keeps Ipswich bottom of the table but, amid euphoria, that will barely matter. Keane, though, resisted elation.
"I'm pleased. It's! nice to win football matches. We didn't play particularly ! well but we won an ugly game. That's allowed. Had we conceded another late goal, that would've been hard to take," the Irishman said, barely raising a smile. Delight must have frothed underneath.
For Derby manager, Nigel Clough, there was cutting disappointment with an eighth defeat in 11 matches. An enquiry to the Football League to have this fixture postponed, with 16 senior players out, was rebuffed.
"I don't think there's any other club in the country without 16 first team players," he said wearily, having named only five substitutes. "We thought we did enough (to win) but, at the moment, the little things go against us."
His team lacked pace, width and penetration but competed ferociously in a game low on finesse but high on industry.
The contest was given a touch of theatre. Derby captain, Robbie Savage, reprise! d his role as pantomime villain, grabbing Alan Quinn around the neck during a tussle and drawing a caution. Howls of derision reverberated around the ground. Music to Savage's ears. There was little to please purists' eyes.
Begovic excelled with fine stops from Hughes and Gary Teale. Bywater repelled two thundering Alex Bruce headers as the action swung one way, then the next. Each near miss exacerbated the tension. By the finish there was a mass release of emotion.

No Champions League Screen for Manchester Following Uefa Violence
by Krissy Haze
Manchester Council has dramatically abandoned plans to use big screens to screen next week's Manchester United Vs Chelsea Champions League final after Glasgow Rangers fans caused chaos in the city. An estimated 20,000 Glasgow Rangers fans were in the city to see their team play Zenit St Petersberg in the match at the City of Manchester Stadium, but the occasion soured when people ran riot in the city centre, attacking both police officers and civilians.
Richard Leese, leader of the city council leader, told reporters that Manchester would not be screening the vital game next Wednesday as "an appropriate response to what happened last night." He said that "any business or resident of the city centre" would agree with the council's decision not to show the game.
Trouble started in the city when a big screen that was supposed to be showing the game to an estimated 20,000 fans in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens failed just fi! fteen minutes before kick off. All attempts to fix the screen failed, so the council laid on free transport for 11,000 fans to watch the game on a screen in the Velodrome. However, some fans refused to go to the alternative venue and violence erupted.
Violence was also present at the Stadium and one St Petersburg fan was stabbed in his seat before kick-off. There was more violence outside the City of Manchester Stadium after Rangers lost 2-0 in the match. In total, there were 52 assaults recorded in the city and fifteen police officers and a police dog were treated for their injuries. 42 football supporters all thought to be Glasgow Rangers fans - were arrested after the violence.
Glasgow Rangers released a statement yesterday, which condemned the behaviour of their badly behaved fans. Martin Bain, the club's chief executive, said: "The club has had discussions with Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council in view of incidents in the cit! y last night. The police and council praised the behaviour of ! the over whelming majority of Rangers fans." However, he added "We are deeply disappointed that a small minority soured what was great carnival atmosphere and this is a view shared by our fans who travelled in unprecedented numbers to Manchester."
Uefa, the governing body of European football, is now investigating the violence. However, it is not yet known whether Glasgow Rangers can be punished for the bad behaviour of its supporters.
William Gaillard of Uefa said that Greater Manchester Police and the city as a whole had done a "fantastic" job in looking after the fans. He said: "I can't believe that any other city would have done anything better. Of course we are very disappointed with the behaviour of a small minority especially after the city had done everything it could to accommodate everyone's needs and were rewarded by injured policemen and hundreds of tons of rubbish."

Le coppie della settimana dal 12 al 19 ottobre
di Davide Pampanin
Federica Nargi e Alessandro Matri. Come finir! à?

TABÙ OLIMPICO PER BALLARDINI

di Orazio Resta
Fonte: lazialità.it

Padova-Triestina Le voci dallo spogliatoio

Di Pasquale Campanella
Fonte: eurosport

Buon week-end a tutti.
Mancano all'appello Giovann! i, Celeste e Felix.
Smile :)
Ciao, Raffaele
United Post - Le ultime dallo spogliatoio
Formazione: Coppola - Papastathopoulos, Natali, Mantovani - Sammarco, Ledesma, Padoin - Cossu - Esposito, Miccoli, Mascara.
A disposizione: Carrizo - Portanova, Costa - Cerci, Valiani, Di Gennaro - Brienza.
Festa! Dopo 13 anni, A&J ritorna in Europa

What have we learned from the Confederations Cup?
Several things, in no particular order:
South Africa can host a major football tournament without a breakdown in law and order.
Brazil and Spain will probably do OK, but the latter need a Plan B when Plan A (pass the opposition to death and Ole! Ole! Ole! your way to a stunning victory) doesn't work.
Italy's glut of strikers with two left feet will hamper their attempts to retain the trophy. Either that or they'll have a major corruption crisis and pull together in time to win it again (see 1982 and 2006).
Both South Africa and the USA have made early bids for 'plucky outsiders who might cause a few upsets' status.
Swarms of angry bees will invade every stadium. At least that's what this sounds like:
http://www.southafrica.info/2010/vuvuzela.htm
And if the Lions tour is any guide, sales of Rorke's Drift tunics, hats and t-shirts will go thr! ough the roof next summer. At least they'll do better than novelty items referring to the crushing defeat suffered just hours earlier at Isandlwana.
Serie A Top Scorers: Super Di Natale equals Batistuta's record

(ANSA) - Eight goals in the first 6 games , Italy international Antonio Di Natale (Picture ANSA.it) is more and more the 'Cannoniere' - the 'Top Scorer' - of Serie A, with a record number scores.
To find in the Italian top flight league another similar high score after 540 minutes of play, you need to go back to the 1998/99 season when, as well with 8 goals, the leader was 'Viol! a' striker Gabriel Batistuta.
That year coincidentally, the final top scorer ended up to be another Udinese player, unforgotten Brazilian Marcio Amoroso, with 22 scores, followed by 'Batigoal', second with 21. Perhaps a good omen, for the diminutive 'Zebre' winger, in view of regaining Marcello Lippi's consideration for next year's World Cup team selection.

The Big Interview: Manuel Almunia

Five years ago last month Manuel Almunia arrived at Arsenal from the backwaters of Spanish football with a sense of shock and awe. He had just spent another season on loan from Celta Vigo, his third in a row with a different club, and helped Albacete Balompié avoid relegation. Arsenal, meanwhile, had just won the Premier League and become the first club in 115 year! s of English football to remain undefeated in an entire top-flight league campaign.
"I was 27 but I was very shy because everybody at Arsenal was a big star in world football," Almunia grins ruefully. "Bergkamp. Vieira. Henry. Ljungberg. Pires. Cole. Campbell. I signed just when they'd become the Invincibles. I couldn't believe it."
